What's in my pack

Gear I recommend

Each trail guide includes the one piece of gear that matters most on that hike. Here they all are in one place.

Packable rain jacket

Mountain storms roll in fast up here, and the Crater Lake trail has little cover once you leave the trees.

For Maroon Bells: Maroon Lake to Crater Lake

Grippy hiking gloves

The chains get hot in summer and slick from thousands of hands. Gloves make the scramble a lot more comfortable.

For Angels Landing: The Chains Section

Wide-brim sun hat

Most of this trail is on open slickrock, and the overlook has no shade.

For Canyon Overlook Trail

Trekking poles

The trail is steep and loose in places. Poles help on the way down and save your legs on the climb back to the rim.

For Bryce Canyon: Queens Garden and Navajo Loop
